What a Hafilat card is and how its serial number looks

Hafilat is the smart card used to pay bus fares in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The card is tapped on the reader when boarding and again when getting off, and the fare is worked out from the distance travelled.

Serial number: 16 digits

Printed on the back of the card. We show it in groups of four — 0000 0000 0000 0000 — so it is easy to read.

Two kinds of card

An anonymous card costs AED 10, a personalised one is free with an ID and a photo. Both last 16 years.

Balance limit AED 150

A card holds up to AED 150, and credit stays valid for three months from the top-up date.

Where the card works

Public buses across Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, including the suburbs.

How bus card recharge works on this site

Send the card details

Open the top-up page, type the 15 or 16 digit serial number from the back of your Hafilat card and pick an amount between AED 10 and AED 150.

We confirm the request

A manager replies within 24 working hours, repeats the amount and the service fee back to you and agrees how you prefer to pay.

Tap the card to refresh it

Once the top up bus card request is submitted, the balance can take up to two hours to arrive. Tap the card on a bus validator or a recharge machine to read the new amount.

Top up bus card amounts, fees and processing time

The fee is the only amount we add, and a request we cannot complete costs you nothing.

Why riders use our hafilat recharge service

One page instead of a queue

The whole bus card recharge request is a card number, an amount and a phone number. No account, no app install.

Top up for someone else

A card can be topped up by anyone who has its serial number, so parents and colleagues can send a request for a family member.

Plain numbers

Fees, limits and timing are written on the page you are reading, not hidden behind a checkout step.

Human reply

Requests are read by our office in Al Manhal, Abu Dhabi, during the working hours listed below.

See all questions
How do I top up my bus card through this website?

Open the top-up page, enter the 15 or 16 digit serial number printed on the back of your Hafilat card, choose an amount between AED 10 and AED 150 and leave a contact number. A manager confirms the request within 24 working hours and agrees the payment method with you.

How long does a hafilat recharge take to appear on the card?

Once the top-up is submitted, credit added online can take up to two hours to reach the card. The card only shows the new amount after it is read by a device, so tap it on a bus validator or on a sales and recharge machine.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Debit and credit cards issued in the United Arab Emirates, and bank transfer for company accounts. A manager agrees the method with you after the request is confirmed.

What are the fees and limits?

Our service fee is AED 3 per request and it is shown before you send the form. Top-ups run from AED 10 to AED 150 in steps of AED 5, and a card cannot hold more than AED 150 in total.
